To minimise any inconvenience to our
neighbours we have introduced restricted flying times at both our local sites.
The Clifton site being only available for use on Tuesdays, Thursdays and through
the weekend. Our Stainland site is only available on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays.
We use the pegboard system at all of our
sites, pegs being taken from the board
and placed on the T/X, returning them to the board on completion of
transmission, we do not hog the peg. We also have a SM Frequency meter / pegboard
that is used at Our Tockwith site.
We expect all fliers to observe the commonsense safety
parameters when flying at any of our sites. Preferably not flying on their own with
powered models that could inflict injury.
Clifton (Click Here for Map)
Our Clifton flying site is down Walton Lane at the
junction with Jayhouse Lane, Clifton, Brighouse, cars are parked just through
the gate but may be driven to the pits area for unloading equipment, they must
then be returned to the parking area. We welcome non members to watch the flying or
just talk about the hobby. Visiting B.M.F.A. Members
are welcome to fly with us, but please only when a Brighouse member is present
and with the members approval.
We do not fly over or close i.e. 200 metres to the
cottages down Jayhouse Lane and keep the revs down as much as possible, note
that 2 stroke engines and turbines are NOT ALLOWED at this
site. We have few restrictions on hours observing no flying of any models until 12 noon
Sunday and no later than 8 pm on any day.
Stainland (Click Here for Map)
We have now obtained from Calderdale Leisure
Services a license to use Stainland Recreation Ground. This site is in Stainland
between Halifax and Huddersfield on the right (going up the hill from Halifax) just before the
"Red Lion" public house. Turn into
the public car park, keep to your right and carry on down to the bottom of the
recreation area. Please note that 2 stroke engines and turbines are NOT
ALLOWED to fly at this site.
Tockwith (Click Here for Map)
We also have use of the WW II Marston
Moor Airfield at Tockwith, North Yorkshire, for Electric Powered Flight, where
themed meetings are held on the Second Sunday of each month. The gates open
at 9-15 a.m. with flying commencing at 10 a.m. These meeting are open to all paid-up BFMA Members but proof will be
required. (See the Our Events Page on this website for the diary)
All transmitters will be frequency checked
by a SM Frequency meter / pegboard and all transmitters will be compounded when
not in use. All models require fail safe on at least throttle control. A small
charge is made for the days flying to cover the site rent of this excellent site.
Fascinating Facts about Tockwith Airfield (Marston Moor
Airfield)
During the War Tockwith airfield was
renamed 'Marston Moor Airfield' to avoid confusion with Topcliffe Airfield. Part
of the airfield is now used as a driver training centre and the old control
tower is used as the offices. Parts of the runways can still be seen.
Heart-throb of the American silver screen, Clark Gable was stationed during the
war at Marston Moor Airfield. USAAF Captain Gable was a member of the ground
staff. Group Captain Leonard Cheshire was also stationed at Marston Moor for a
short while before leaving in 1943 to become Commander of the famous 617 Dam
Buster Squadron following Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC.
