The B.M.F.A. Examiners Safety Check list

(Safety and Ground Handling)

The following Check List is used by the BMFA Examiners for both "A" and "B" Fixed wing Tests
a.
  Is the Model suitable for the test ?
  Is it safe ?
  Is there a bare prop nut ?

 

b.
Is the channel number prominently displayed on the candidates equipment ?
c.
Has the frequency clearance been obtained ?
d.
Is the model suitably restrained while the engine is running ?
e.
Are all the adjustments to the engine or glow clip removal done from the rear ?
f.
Has the model been held with nose high to check engine mixture setting ?
g.
 Have "SMART" checks been carried out ?
S = Switch on
M= meter in the green
A= aerial secure and extended
R= rate switches in the correct position
T= trims in the correct position
h.
Has the correct radio equipment switch on  sequence been followed ?
i.
Have the control surfaces been checked for "jitter" on full power ?
j.
Has the take off area been checked  and was a clear call of "TAKING OFF" made before take off ?
k.
 Has the landing area been checked and a clear call of "LANDING" been made ?
l.
Has the correct radio equipment switch off sequence been carried out ?
m.
 Has the frequency control system been cleared ?
n.
Has the model been checked for possible flight or landing damage ?
o.
 Is the BMFA Membership Card/Insurance up to date ?
 
Notes :- If the examiner finds that the candidate does not carry out some of the safety and ground checks correctly, he/she needs to satisfy themselves that it is just a "one off" error and that the candidate normally carries out these checks.
